Composites Innovation Center in Winnipeg and Australian Composites Centre sign agreement
The Composites Innovation Centre (CIC) Manitoba Inc. based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and the Cooperative Research Centre for Advanced Composite Structures Limited (CRC-ACS) located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together in the development and commercialization of composite materials and process technologies. This agreement links the capabilities of both organizations to provide a broader experience base for their industrial partners.
“CIC is involved with numerous projects with industry covering many business sectors,” said Mr Sean McKay, CIC’s Executive Director. “Due to our size and focus on specific core competencies, it is unrealistic to be able to properly support all their needs with internal resources only. Having relationships with other composite experts such as CRC-ACS allows us to provide superior and expanded services to our customers, developing and implementing the latest materials and technologies that will provide them with a leg up on their competitors.”
“CRC-ACS and its member organisations are delighted to be linking up with one of North America’s leading composites development centres,” said Prof. Murray Scott, CRC-ACS Chief Executive Officer. “International collaboration is very important to us and this agreement gives us a new opportunity to further develop our network in partnership with CIC. Australia and Canada have much in common, including in the field of composite materials, and my colleagues are looking forward to working with CIC specialists in pursuing new opportunities in areas ranging from bio-composites to aerospace composite structures.”
The Composites Innovation Centre Manitoba Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation that is jointly sponsored by private industry and government. This organization works directly with industry, on industry sponsored projects that result in a measurable economic benefit to the project participants and the community.
CRC-ACS receives significant support under the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres Program, as well as from its eight core, three supporting and 14 associate members.
The Cooperative Research Centre for Advanced Composite Structures Ltd. brings Australian research providers and the aerospace, maritime and general composites industries together to develop and implement competitive composites technologies. Since its inception in 1991, it has grown to become one of the world’s leading composites research organizations. The partnership includes leading composites businesses, government research laboratories and Australia’s foremost universities in composites research. Current membership stands at 25 organizations, but this is set to increase in all categories by up to around 20% over the coming year.
CRC-ACS involves over 100 research staff and students, including 30 full-time specialist research engineers and technicians whom are experienced in every stage of composites research, design and development. It has developed a formidable array of new technology for its partners and commercial customers and is in a unique position, bridging research, development and implementation of composites technology. CRC-ACS supports businesses on many levels, as they become integral partners in the generation and adoption of new technology.
